rod puppet
Johnny's Seven Friends (2002)
director Anne Türnpu, designer Rosita Raud
The puppet's head can move backwards and forwards and turn left and right thanks to a mechanism operated by a ring-shaped detail attached to the control rod under the skirt.
You may gently turn the puppet!
Description
A rectangular display case about 180 cm tall with a slanted top. Two sides of the case are black; one of them carries the white text introducing the exhibit. On the right edge of the same side, about 80 cm from the floor, are the exhibit number, the NFC symbol and a QR code — scanning it lets you experience the exhibition in an accessible way.
The other two sides of the case are glass, and the puppet can be seen through them. Depicted on one glass side is the X-ray image of the puppet inside the case, together with keywords naming the materials the puppet is made of. At the bottom of the side with the X-ray image is an opening with a disc that lets you turn the puppet.

Wednesday is a girl about 60 cm tall, dressed in the folk costume style of Muhu island, standing on top of a black case. She has braided plaits the colour of potato peel, reaching her shoulders. On her head she wears a bonnet embroidered with pinkish and yellowish flowers.
The girl's pale face has dark eyes and round cheeks painted pink.
Wednesday wears a white long-sleeved folk costume blouse with pink embroidery, with a brooch fastened at the chest.
Over her yellow embroidered skirt is a red crocheted apron with flower motifs and a leather belt with a metal buckle.
The puppet's pale arms are bent forward at the elbows. At the ends of the arms are metal control rods for moving her hands.
In the puppet's X-ray image you may notice several wires resembling strands of hair at the top edge of her round head. Wednesday's middle is formed by an hourglass-shaped frame, on which the metal brooch and the belt buckle are also visible. The middle of the body is connected by a spring to the lower body, which is formed of two partially overlapping wire rings. The spring can be found on the demonstration puppet at number 12. Arms are placed on both sides of the body. On one forearm a hinge twisted from wire is visible — on the demonstration puppet it carries number 9. Hanging control rods are attached to the hands with a metal plate.
You can find a tactile drawing of the puppet's X-ray image at exhibit 12, the light table.
